Now is not too early to check with your synod assembly planners about ordering the Prayer Book for the Armed Forces for your upcoming synod assembly. At synod assemblies in 2016, Augsburg Fortress Publishing provided prayer books ordered by synod assembly planners at cost with no shipping charges. Several synods took up the offer with one synod ordering 650 prayer books, one for every person attending the Synod Assembly. Augsburg Fortress Publishing is working with the ELCA Endorser to Federal Chaplaincies on a follow-up to that offer for the 2017 synod assemblies. For those who order the prayer books to go to synod assembly, there is no shipping charge. In fact, there is no shipping charge for returning the books, either. The good news – no synod has ever had to return any copies of the Prayer Book for the Armed Services.
For example, at your assembly, you could make available copies of the prayer book for purchase by attendees or for purchase by individuals or congregations for the purpose of donating prayer books to a Lutheran chaplain for distribution to military personnel. If you need help finding a chaplain to receive donated copies of the prayer book, your Centurion Connector or the ELCA Federal Chaplain Endorser can help with that. (Author: Pastor Laura Olson)
